Escape Rooms and Team Building

Escape rooms are fun, and instinctively folks think of them as great for team building. Are they right? What specifically does an escape room bring to the party as a means of building teams?

To begin, a successful escape room session depends heavily on cooperation and collaboration, cornerstones for an effective team. Puzzles at Gateway Escape Rooms require observation and logic to solve. The most successful teams “talk out” the challenge and encourage one another to keep working, or ask for more input from others in the team.

Our rooms are designed so that the team can break up into smaller groups and work on puzzles concurrently. This allows more people to participate as the game unfolds. The shared rush when a lock yields to the code you have discovered is wonderful.

Team Building That Builds Teams

One day the owner of Gateway Escape Rooms arrived to find a group of hardworking folks waiting to start a session. They were standing outside enjoying the unseasonably cool morning. Our owner noted that a couple of the guys had a “why are we doing this” look on their face. He then asked the puzzlemasters to watch to see if the players warmed up to the experience once the game was underway.

Indeed it did. Both the men, once the ice was broken, really got into several of the puzzles and were instrumental in solving the room. On the way out where our escape room players take pictures, all were smiles and had a great time.

In our experience, an escape room session is a way to reward staff and employees with a meaningful team building exercise that is fun and exciting. The tasks in an escape room will help build your team.

  1. Escape rooms sound like a great activity. I love the fact that the owner of the shop watched a group and saw everyone have a good time. It sounds like our work group should try something like this. I bet it’d help with bonding.
